Magnetic Therapy and the Beneficial Effects

Magnetic therapy is a controversial subject in the west, as are many alternative medical treatments. Those who believe in the positive effects o magnetic therapy claim that through subjecting some parts of the body to magnetic fields of magnetic energy a beneficial effect can be realized. In this belief a whole industry has developed promoting the sale of healing magnetic products such as magnetic bracelets, jewelry, wrist straps, ankle straps, shoe insoles, magnetic blankets, mattresses and even mageticized water.

The idea behind magnetic therapy is that certain parts of the body, if subjected to dozes of magnetic energy will experience benefit. Scientific tests of magnetic therapy for many types of pain including chronic low back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome, both very command, have concluded that there is no known benefit from magnetic therapy. For that reason, the skepticism of traditional medical professionals, FDA regulations make it illegal to market a magnetic therapy product claiming that it can treat or cure any significant condition such as HIV, AIDS, asthma, cancer, rheumatism, or arthritis. Generally scientific minds say that the magnets used are not strong enough to have a lasting effect of body parts.
They also point out that people who work in the field of physics spend much longer parts of the day with their bodies immersed in far stronger magnetic fields and are no more or no less healthy than their contemporaries. Of course some proponents of magnetic therapy say that the magnets interact with the iron in the blood, in the red cells. Scientists claim that this is not so.

Despite the controversy there are many people who believe that magnetic therapy has had positive effects on their health in many ways. They also claim that it regulates body chemicals and helps them to achieve balance. At the very least they say magnetic therapy is not harmful. There is of course another school of thought that says that magnetic therapy, if a person believes it will work, stimulates the body to heal itself, in kind of a mind over matter effect. Regardless of the theories many people believe in the therapeutic effects of magnetic therapy.
